International Thespian Society Troupe 192

Description

We are a theatre national honor society. Students in ITS contribute to their community, earn points for theatre and volunteer work and also attend/compete in the MD State HS Theatre Festival. Our goal is to build strong leaders and active artists for any theatre community.

Math National Honor Society

Description

Math National Honor Society (MNHS) promotes math education through peer tutoring and math centered activities for members. Howard High School's MNHS chapter is a part of the internationally recognized honor society, Mu Alpha Theta.

Members will tutor math classes of all grade levels, earn points through attendance of math centric activities such as Math Team, and promote the enjoyment of math.

National Art Honor Society and Art Club

Description 

The National Art Honor Society is a group that priorities service to the school environment and community through art.  We will host 2 main events such as Coffeehouse and Empty Bowls.  We will paint a Fine Arts Mural this year and meet to establish community among the artists at Howard through projects and gatherings.

National English Honor Society

Description

The National English Honor Society (NEHS) celebrates the contribution of high school students worldwide, cultivating their passion for the English language arts.

NEHS is the world’s largest discipline-specific honor society for high school students who are captivated by English language and literature, creative writing, theatre, film and media studies, and journalism. This unique society offers an unparalleled chance for students, educators, and schools to engage in an enriching, discipline-specific international community.

Our mission is to cultivate a vibrant community where high school students and educators can immerse themselves in promoting literacy and serving society, while honoring exceptional and diverse achievements in the English language arts and related subjects.

Students in NEHS coordinate study halls, monitor an online resource database with essay revision services, and organize the Poetry Out Loud competition.

National Honor Society (NHS)

Description

The National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes students who demonstrate excellence in the four pillars of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. NHS provides members with opportunities to serve their school and community, develop leadership skills, participate in service projects, and work collaboratively to make a positive impact on others.

The objective of NHS is to promote and celebrate scholarship, service, leadership, and character while encouraging members to become active and responsible leaders within their school and community. Through service projects, leadership opportunities, and school involvement, NHS seeks to develop students who demonstrate integrity, responsibility, compassion, and a commitment to helping others.

National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA)

Description

NHSDA recognizes outstanding artistic merit, leadership, and academic achievement in students studying dance. We aim to recognize dance students and participate in dance activities beyond the dance class requirements. Only Juniors and Senior may be accepted.

National Technical Honor Society (NTHS)

Description

We will host monthly meetings, check ins, guest speakers in STEM, alumni guest speakers in STEM, campus clean ups at Howard HS.  Our goal is to promote and support STEM at Howard High.

Rho Kappa Honor Society

Description

Rho Kappa is the Social Studies Honor Society. We work to preserve the history of Howard High School through projects such as maintaining display cases at the front of the school and developing a Howard history archive. We also work to foster Howard students' awareness and involvement in civics and citizenship, such as through voter registration drives. 

Students will continue developing an archive of historic materials about Howard HS, update existing displays/brainstorm ideas for new displays around the school, and sponsor events that grow civics/citizenship activism in our student body.
