Howard Scholars Program

Wed, 01/19/2022 - 1:48pm

The Howard Scholars Program is designed to honor Howard students who made the most of their academic experience in high school and excelled in a variety of AP Level or College courses.  Those who earn the distinction of “Howard Scholar” are students who are hardworking, academically focused, and willing to challenge themselves to be the best they can be.  All students who successfully complete the requirements to earn the title of Howard Scholar will receive an honorary medal, which they may wear at graduation, thus establishing them in front of the entire Howard Community as students who have done exceptional work during their time at Howard High School.

To earn this incredible distinction, students must successfully complete 6 AP Level or College Courses prior to the end of their senior year of high school.  Students need to earn at least a “C” in each of these courses and, if an AP Course, take the corresponding AP Exam.  Students who wish to take courses at HCC must provide a transcript of their successful completion of courses.  Students must take courses in:

Math
Social Studies
English
Science

In addition, students must complete at least two elective courses.  Students who successfully complete a GT

Independent Research course or Intern/Mentor course may count these accomplishments towards their elective credits. It is a student’s responsibility to provide the attached completed checklist to the administrator in charge of Howard Scholars by the announced due date in their senior year (usually before 4th quarter).  Failure to submit the checklist by this due date will disqualify a student from earning the honor.

Application

Please submit completed applications to Ms. Patterson (jenniferE_patterson@hcpss.org) by email or by dropping off at the front office NO LATER THAN April 1, 2022.  Late applications will not be accepted.
